poetry out loud

After watching several videos i decided i liked the siren song the best by Margaret Atwood recited by Teal Van Dyck. the parts of her performance that really stuck out were: First her voice and articulation everything she said well very clear and audible. She also used a change in the way she spoke. Another thing she did well on was her Physical presence because she use appropriate gestures and was very poise and was looking at everybody. Last her Understanding of the poem really came through in the poem.

The meaning i get from hearing her say the poem is how men are easily attracted by a damsel in distress. The damsel pretends to be in trouble even though they are not just to attract the men to make them feel important. Also in the poem it said "Alas, It is a boring song, but it works every time" This shows that they don't like pretending they are in trouble but it works so they do it. I got this from the way Teal engaged you in the beginning with her voice to draw you in like the damsel then changed her voice at the end to show how it was easy but she doesn't enjoy doing it.

Mockingbird motif

Before reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee my understanding of a motif was not very clear. I thought that a motif was kinda the same thing as the theme, but after reading the book my understanding of a motif changed. The mockingbird motif in the book helped me figure out that the motif was a Symbol that kept reoccurring that helped enhance the themes of the book.

The motif of the mockingbird came up many times through out the book and it was very important for exemplifying the major themes. The mockingbird motif was first introduced by Atticus who told Scout and Jem that it was a sin to kill a mockingbird. One of the times the motif is used to exemplify the theme was when at the end of the story how Atticus was trying to have Boo go to court, but Mr. Tate wanted to just cover it up and Scout after Mr. Tate left she told Atticus that it was sorta like shooting a mockingbird. This motif was used to exemplify the theme of standing in someone elses shoes and how Boo wouldn't want to go out and get all this attention and he just wanted to be left alone in his house and Scout understood this through the motif. The motif was very important to the story and helped the themes.

life lesson

My parents say many inspirational things to me all the time. The one that i think about a lot was told to my by my father. it is "Things turn out the best for who make the best of the way things turn out." My dad would use this saying a lot when i was little because i would complain a lot about whatever like if it was raining at an event or if we couldn't go someplace.

This phrase that my dad said to me i have thought about it a lot. I have thought about more now in my older years because i now understand more what it means and i try to use it in my life. I have learned a lot from this simple phrase because now if something is not going right i just try to make the best out of the situation and it always is better then if i just have not. so its all thanks to my father that some situations turned out a lot better for me by him telling me his words of wisdom.

my best friend

My best friend is Tony Marcello. we met in second grade and have been best friends ever since. Tony moved to here from Italy in the summer before second grade. we became best friends when he sat next to me in the first day of second grade. He didn't have a pencil the first day and i gave him one of mine and exchange he gave me this amazing Italian candy. He has very good morals and volunteers at the animal shelter once every week. He is very nice and is always going out of his way to help people.Tony has is 5 10 now with light brown hair and tan skin from his Italian heritage. He also has this amazing Italian accent that sounds very sweet. he speaks fluent English and Italian. When ever someone meets him they like him right away because of how he is so outgoing and is up for anything. Tony is also very athletic. he plays many sports and is good at all of them. The sport he likes the most is lacrosse. he is the captain for his team. It is fun going out and watching him play and listening to his pregame motivational speech. Besides sports Tony is also very smart. he competes in the knowledge bowl every year. he has one it 4 out of the last 5 times he has competed. He is a straight A student with a 4.0.

Tony is definitely not Egoist or Egotist because all he cares about is other people and doesn't care what he gets out of things and doesn't say how good he is at things. Tony is definitely Altruist because of how he just cares about helping others and not himself. Tony is also very athletic and smart. Another characteristic of Tony is that he is Extrovert because he is always happy and full of high spirits. All these characteristics are why Tony is my best friend.

my earliest memory

My earliest memory was on a average day and it was sunny outside. My family was level out our yard because it was slanted downhill and we wanted it to be flat. My father was working on putting up a retaining wall to hold all of the dirt up that was going to be put behind it. There were plastic tubes sticking up in the yard that i'm not sure why they were there, but my brother and i deceided to make the best of them. since the ground was all dug up there were rocks and everywhere, we dicided to try and through the rocks and try to get them in the plastic tubes.

My big brother and i were trying to get the rocks in the tubes for a little while and i picked up this piece of concrete that i thought was a rock and I threw it eventhough my big brother was standing right by it. The rock went flying through the air and i thought it was going to go in but insted it hit my brother right in the forhead and split it right open. All of a sudden my big brother was crying and i didn't know what happend untill i saw the red gusshing blood pouring from his head. My parents came rushing over and my mom was hysterical when she saw all the blood. We then stopped everything that we were doing and my dad went and got paper towels and we went and hopped right in the car and headed for the hospital.

when we arrived at the hospital my brothers head was still bleeding pretty bad. we were took right into a room with a bed and alot of machiences and it was very clean. my dad was busy doing paper work while my mom was comforting my brother. A lady came in and started working on my brothers cut and cleaning it up. After she got it all cleaned she then told my parents that the cut needs stitches since it was so big. The lady then left and came back with a tray carring a shot, thread, and a neadle. She then gave my brother a shot to numb his cut. Then she put the stitches in my brother crying the whole time. After that she put a bandage on it and then we had to wait a long time before we eventually could go home.

Treasure Island Imagery

The book I read for my outside reading was Treasure Island. The literary element used heavily by the author was tone. First I believe that the author used this element so much was because he wanted to give you the feeling of that it was you on the adventure right along side the character.

Another reason why the author used so much imagery was because of the time period it was written about. since the time period was very early the author used the imagery to give you the sense of what things looked like and how people acted. The last reason the author used so much imagery was because of where the setting was. Since the setting was on a remote island, that few people have been to, the author needed to describe what it was like through the use of imagery.

outside reading

I am reading treasure Island for my outside reading project. I am enjoying this book so far. I got right into the book because of what the books characters and story where about, which is pirates. The main literary element in the story is imagery. This is pretty obvious because of how the author describes everything in great detail with the use of imagery. i believe the book was written in this manner because of how people didn't live in the time where pirates existed so the authors uses the imagery to give you a sense of what it is like. I'm not sure yet of what the tone is yet because i haven't gotten that far into the book yet.

Reading

When a book is just so boring in the first few pages the way I get into the by just keep reading and pushing on. If it is confusing though I will go back and reread the part I don't understand. If i don't have the ideal reading space the way i cope with it is I just zone into the book and just focus on what i am reading instead of the distractions of the space. My reading style is i can read anywhere, but i usually read at night in my bed. Also it depends on how much i read if it is a better book I usually read more in one sitting like 100 or more. While with a dull book I might only read 20 to 50 pages at a time. I enjoy reading fiction because I like how events or characteristics in the book that couldn't happen in real life. Since somethings can't happen the author can describe something and you can picture in your head what happens and not base it off an event you have occured in your life.
