my blog is me

My blog is part of me put out in words from memories to my ideas that i share with people. My blog career has been very good for this whole year. through this year i have posted twenty one making this my twenty second. at he beginning of my blog career i was a little skeptical about the whole thing because i was thinking that this was just going to be a hassle every week and it was going to be point less. after posting a couple blogs i found out that it was quite fun, and interesting, and beneficial. the first blogs that i wrote about were my outside reading. i learned through these that there are more to books then just their stories. i found about literary elements like imagery. the blog that was one that i remember writing well was talking about my first memory. what i like about this so much was just reliving my past and being able to share it with everyone else. another very memorable blog post that is a big part of my life was when i got to share the experience of meeting my best friend Tony. this was nice because i like how this event in my normal life was so minuscule and i never really thought about it before until i start my blog. through this i found out that it is a very important part of my life and that i was really lucky to meet him. another blog post that i never really thought about before the post was the life lessons. i think i did not really think about if before. After writing the blog it made me realized that i was living my life with the lesson in mind. another blog that was helpful to my English career was my post about the mocking bird motif in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. this help me because it helps my understandings of motifs and other literary elements which i wouldn't have thought about if it wasn't for the blogs. One of my very favorite blog post slash assignment was my animal farm project. why i loved this assignment so much was because of the new experiences such as the process of making a video and all of the parts that go into it like filming, editing, costumes, and scripts. Also the great and memorable moments when filming. As the year went on the blog post started to be more about examining literature like when we examined Rome and Juliet. Although this was not as fun as some of the other blog post it was very beneficial to myself. It was beneficial in many was like on how i was able to come up with my own ideas of what the motif of dreams meant. the blog made me think more beneath the surface and showed me that i could do it. my blog has been a very important part of my freshman year English experience and like Getrue Stine said "I am writing for myself and strangers. This is the only way i can do it. Everybody is a real one to me, everybody is like someone else too to me. know one of them that i know can want to know it and so i write for myself and strangers." and that is what i did and my blog is part of me.

challenges and conquest

after writing several essays i have learned a lot through the process. i do believe i am becoming an essayist but i don't believe i am totally there because i am not getting A's on my essays. i now know the purpose of literary analysis is to get deeper into the book and to see what the author is saying. some challenges that are there are getter deeper into the book and not just staying with surface level thinking. The rewards of this is a deeper understanding and the ability to have more captivating essays.

After finishing writing my essay there are only a couple things i am worried about being in the b range. First i am worried about having original ideas i believe they are for the most part original but some might not be all the way. secondly i am worried about if i embedded my quotes correctly. Other than those two things i feel that i did pretty well.

summer reading

the first book i want to read over the summer is called Brunelleschi's dome by . this book is about the story of Brunelleschi process of building the duomo in Florence. i want to read this because i have been to Florence and have climbed up the inside of the dome and i and interested on how he built it.

the second book i want to read is War by Sebastian Junger. this book is about a man who goes to war in Afghanistan and the harsh reality about war. i want to read this because the different view on war intrigues me and i want to learn about it.

dreams

I have had several times where I have had a dream or feeling of foreboding. The one i remember the most clearly happened last summer. During last summer I was backpacking with my dad brother and some other people we know from inside Canada to Stevens pass in Washington. It was the 8Th or 9Th day that we have been hiking and about 160 out of 200 miles and I woke up that morning and after having a quick breakfast i started to filter water out of the most pristine lake i have ever seen. The water was the best tasting i have ever had and after filling my 2 water bottles and after everyone filled theirs there was still one liter of water left that I filtered. I was planning on just dumping it out because i didn't feel like carrying more weight. when i was about to dump the water out i had this strange feeling that i shouldn't so i decided to keep it and i put it in my pack. later that day i was still wondering why i was carrying that extra water. I had only drunk one of my 2 bottles. a short while later we encountered a small creek that was about 6ft across and there were rocks about half way then you had to jump. i Have already encountered much harder obstacles so i thought none the less of it and when i jumped to the other side in midair my last water bottle dislodged from the mess pocket i had it in and it was rushed away down stream. The water was to fast for me to catch it. Luckily i had kept that extra water and i had enough to make it to the next spot that we stayed the night at.


Both Romeo and Mercutio have different ideas about dreams. Romeo thinks they are true and Mercutio does not. It is hard to choose on whose side i side with because part of me believes that you can have dreams or feelings that might not be the exact situation that occurs but could be close. Yet i also think that dreams might just relate to something because before i sleep i am usually thinking about things that are going on in my life so then they might carry over to my dreams so they aren't necessarily telling what is going to happen but just picture a situation that might occur. The motif of dreams has occurred several times so far during the play. One dream that is an important part is Romeo's dream, "And we mean well in in going to this masque, But 'tis no wit to go./ i dreamt a dream tonight." During this dialogue Romeo says bad things will happen by going to the party. And so far during the book bad things have come about because of his going to the party. Such as the death of Mercutio, Tybalt and Romeo's banishment. If Romeo listened to his dream that wouldn't have happened. The dreams are very important motif to the book because they first add to characterization of the characters and they add to the themes of opposite people like Romeo and Mercutio.

RJ in modern culture

In modern culture references to the love story of Romeo and Juliet is found every where. I have come across several instances and here they are. First off Romeo and Juliet is used a lot in the musical departments. One song that i can think of that isn't Taylor Swift is Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tim4VzHUUyQ. This song talks about all the struggles of the Love between Romeo and Juliet. Another reference to Romeo and Juliet is there are many stories around the world of real life people having to deal with the struggles of loving someone but not being allowed to marry them because of their parents. In this article it talks about how love can cause people to do drastic things like in Romeo and Juliet. The last reference I see quite a lot is that the love story of Romeo and Juliet is used in cartoons or TV shows. This is probably because a lot of people know the story and can realate to it. Also the play itself is used a lot in TV shows for school plays. This is also because the fa mouse balcony scene can be shown and most everyone knows where that comes from. Romeo and Juliet is still very much alive in modern culture.

My true calling

When I first decided to do honors English i was at first a little hesitant about if could do it and how hard it would be. Now that we are more than half way done with the school year I did make the right choice by taking honors. I have enjoyed reading all the great books and i have learned i have become decent at English. I have learned even after loosing a solid 5 to 8 points a book report from grammar that i am pretty good at DGP. This year has been amazing with the wonderful teacher and students and I think i have finally found out what I want to become when I get older. When people ask me what I want to do with my life I can give them and answer before this year I would always say that i was keeping my options open. And now in the midst of all the grammar, reading, essays, and all the fun activities I have found that I want to become a janitor. I don't know what gets me about it. Maybe it is the smell of the liquid soap or board cleaners. Or is it the pride and joy of seeing my face shinning off a the glistening surface of a desk. Dirt and desk doodles beware because one day in the future (all thanks to Mrs. Gilman) I am going to come after your and put you in your place.

skit ideas

The first scene i would use for my skit would be the first encounter Pip had with Abel on the marshes. this would be good because it would show the relationship Pip and Abel had at first and it would also be humorous.

The second scene would be when Abel comes and sees Pip again later in his years and tells him he is his benefactor. this would be good because this would reveal how Pip feels at first about him being his benefactor and how he reacts.

The last scene would be when Pip fights the pale young gentleman. this would be action packed and it would be humorous. Also this would show how Pip and Herbert first met.
